Self portrait
While visiting the art gallery I asked if they had any self portraits, the woman at the desk said she did not think so. I took it upon myself to look around and found the 3 I downloaded. Unfortunately, the information I took about them can not be found. I do know that the first 2 pictures are of the same artist in 2 different forms. I remember reading about it. The third is famous for the woman with the cow in the bathtub. Finally I downloaded one of my favorites of myself, I was going to Halloween party as a hippie chick, this is a good side of me. I like to be free and have fun even at my old age and I recently just lost 68 lbs. and am feeling pretty good about myself.
I found that the other self portraits I downloaded look gloomy almost sad, maybe the artist was portraying her mood, In my portrait obviously my mood is portrayed as upbeat, and girls just want to have fun. The elements in my piece has pattern and color. I think this was good I know that I did not draw myself, I tried but it was not working pictures are better.

Article critiqueing
I selected Welcome to Wonderland first because of the title, it caught my curiousity, then once I click on it to download the bright vibrant blue color opening is more intriguing. A challenge I found picking one was they were all so good and I was not quite sure how to critique without being to harsh. I guess it was harder than I thought because I am not an expert.
I would like to see what my peers say about my slideshow so I know how to make things better. I did enjoy working on this project it was interesting to see everyone else's projects and ideas.

Video Blog Review
Criticism has been here for many years, it was interesting to see just how many things are criticized in everyday life. Not only do we have the criticism of music, films, movies and art as stated in the video Critics:Stories from the inside pages. We as people criticize all the time, look what happens in the real life with people in the media, they even have a show called "Fashion Police". Clement Greenberg said that writing about and criticising art is harder than music, but he really doen't say why. It doesn't seem that some art critics favor Pollack I was getting mixed feelings from each of the videos on how the critics may felt about his work, or I should say they have mixed thoughts.
I was finding myself criticizing art when going to the art gallery in many forms we learned about, but sometimes I would look at something and wonder WOW why did this painting make it to the gallery or I could of done that. I guess the films relate to the project in ways that we look and take a painting apart whether it is abstract or what expression if any is the artist saying.I think being a critic is hard, your tearing things apart at times but I guess that is what it is all about.

Module Project4
This was a great project for me, I enjoyed looking at the different art works in connection to the Civil War. At first I was not sure how I was going to do it or what to do it on. I guess I did not fully understand what was expected of us. I was under the impression we were suppose to use one artist, then realized we could use multiple as long as it was in the theme realm.
I even went back to the art gallery to look around again especially at Kara Walker Series. The other photos of paintings I was able to locate on line.and some were a little harder than others. Unfortuneately I was not able to get the exact years or sizes.

Module 13
I never knew that there was something called lowbrow or highbrow art. It looked to me that this type of art is what began in comic books many years ago. I think that this type of art was getting an unfair judgement call, after all it carries many elements of art. In Bones of Contention video was the one I liked the most, although it was sad it was interesting. Genocide is not only a part of history it still happens in this modern day. It is amazing that bones can be identified and brings some peace to native families that wonder what happened to them. Modernists ideas have brought organization to museums. I do not think Albright Knox Gallery does chronological order like Tate museum, or I should say I did not pay attention to that, but wish I would of because I think all museums should be that way.
I was a little taken to find out that Phillippe de Montabello painting brought so much attention, I guess it leaves alot to your imagination. He was very talented. I am not sure if any of these videos have given me any ideas for my project.

Module 12
1.I chose Abstract Expressionism and Pop art of the 50's and 60's and Andy Warhol because this was more of the time I was born. Most of art that we have been studying has been involving artist from many many years ago before our time.It was interesting or I could relate more to the era.
2. In the first film I watched I did not know that melted bees was is used by Jasper John, over newspaper when creatinng The Flag painting, and there is so much abstract and colors in the paintings shown, by Helen Frankenhaler and William de Koonins; his painting Morning the Spring which he can relate his Long Island home. I also realized that Rauschenber and Warhol brought Hollywood to our view with their silk screening and I did not know that Andy Warhol played a major role in silk screening and commercial illustrations or that he was the first artist to bring Marily Monroe and Liz Taylor enormous head shots to us.Taking this pictures and enlarging them beyond extreme made him famous and it was brilliant for advertising. There are many steps to silkscreening I was not aware of. Andy Warhol was able to meet many famous icons from Hollywood which is very interesting.
3. Making mass production of objects and images in the Pop culture relates well in the textbook and videos. Explaining about Andy Warhol and how he brought so many paintings to life is pretty much very similar. The abstract generation and its artists have a definate connection with the films also.
4. Like I mentioned before I was able to relate to these videos more that others. From the ones that I chose were familar that I have seen them while growing up. There is a better understanding from the commercialized and mass production that occurred during this time especially from the silk screening aspect of it.

Module 11
1. The 1st painting is by Henri Matisse, called La Musique,1937. This is 2 spanish women enjoying a afternoon, it reminds me of Cubism period we were learning about. Very bold colors and emphasis on the women breasts being outlined, symbolizing expressionism.
2. Painting 2 is Smoke, by Fernand Leger,1912. I love this one it has contempory and geometric all over it, along with color and even some charcoal effect.
3. This sculpture by Lee Bontecou, untitled made with welded steel canvas on wire. I did not see this exhibit last time I was there, it is very interesting it looks like a 3D eyeball to me. It has very dark colors.
4. I know I was only suppose to enter 3 photos but I ran into the Emancipaton Approximation by Kara Walker. This consisted of 2 hall ways with Black and white silhouettes. It was telling the story of Abraham Lincolns Slavery, some were vulgar, even brutal and funny. This was more historical and was telling a story.
When going through the Albright Knox Art Gallery I found out that many of the paintings on the outside perimeter walls most stay maybe move around but may never go. The walls are all a bright off white color with many rows of recessed lights, when looking at the contempory paintings they had lights all in one row pointing right at the paintings illuminating them. The movement is very orgainized and areas seem to have paintings of similar size in same area, and the very anormous paintings with similar size. Framing is different on paintings geared to the era, or culture. The different styles of framing goes with the painters preference that may make connect with their painting.

Module 11
1. I chose Expressionism and The Impact of Cubism because I think the expressionism took someone that was also brave, the artists were not afraid to let people view their art whether it was offensive to them or not, it also is a way to show our freedom. Cubism is very interesting bringing the ecentric way of color and expression into that represents their culture and blending it with all around.
2. Some key concepts I learned were how dark artists expression can get and if some of them might of had some mental instabilities that would provoke these dark, sometimes gruesome paintings. Picasso was a main important artist that brought out Cubism, and Goya was considered the father of modern art. It was said that this art seemed to have a loss of mystical or religious feeling. I find that surprising because I have always thought of the Spanish culture very religious. Another key concept I thought was very interesting was that Picasso recorded the war, and this brought many of those images to life from actual viewing of some bad sights. The Frank Gehrys building was actual designed by Picasso.
3. Readings were pretty much on the ball with all the information given and history from the different era of art movements. Although it is alot of reading the more depth the better understanding. The videos always to me give me a better understanding of the movements that interest me more, probably because they are visual.

Module 10
I was looking up 3d paper masks and put more on because it was interesting seeing the many different ones to choose from. The first mask is from the South American mask website you sent and this is from Carnival, Oruro, Bolivia. It is the devil mask and it is said that it represents the Andean preconquest underworld figure that was the lord of the hills and transmognified by the Christians as the Devil, Very unique like the others I chose. It has color, shape, line, balance and variety as elements and principles.
The other masks carry very similar elements and principle the second one has pattern and 3dimensional form and is very cool. The third has color, balance and rhythm. The fourth photo has many masks and I loved them all they have every element. Last but not least I picked this very neat 3D effect and is from paper.

Module 10
1. I chose Buddhism and Hinduism because I was curious on what the difference was.
2. For Buddhism it is interesting that this began with 1 man medictating under a tree, Piedmont tree. It does seem peaceful and the temples that were built are similar to our churches, we have images of Jesus and Mother Mary and they have sculptures of Budda. Their are 2 groups of worshipers the hinayana and Mahanyana,(Monks) To my understanding the Stupa rose from flat ground and Borobudur Temple out of Lava Rock. I was impressed to learn that in Carmel, NY has biggest temple in Western Hemishpere. Buddhism is very kind to creatures.
Hinduism seems more mysterious maybe because it has no real founder and teaches many ways to their God/Brahma. It is strange that this religion is worshiped on the banks of Ganges water and people come there for life and death. Temples do not seem to be as important as in Buddism. All the bodies are burned at the banks for their belief is the spirit will go in flames and spread for life after death, very interesting. Hinduism and the many Gods are symbols to their ways.Hinduism carries within it a deep sense of spiritual in the ordinary and the Source of all life is Brahma, cycle of reincarnation.(video) Again this is very peaceful approach to life and death.
3. The explaination for these religions is similar to the text, but the videos are able to show in better pictures the architecture of temples and the various designs and magnitude that these structures carry.
4. Of course it is always interesting to watching the films than just readings for me visualizing helps to understand better or get a clearer picture of the era we are learning about.

Module 9
1. I have to say it was a little strange looking and drawing my own hand not to mention hard. It makes realize how difficult drawing is. It definately is a natural talent.
2. I used pencil media and tried to make it look like charcoal effect. I feel more comfortable with the pencil.
3. It was unnatural to draw with my non-dominent hand.
4. I think my drawings were successful or maybe just ok. One thing I don't pretend to do is to know how to draw.
5. No I would not consider using my non-dominent hand to create atwork in the future, I am horrible using my dominent hand.

Module 9 video blog review
| 1. I picked The Drawings of Michelangelo and Leonardo a Vinci: The Mind of the Renaissance because I think they are two of the most talented artists that ever lived. I am not an art major and still find their works very interesting and magnificent. They are also both from Italy where I would love to visit some day. 2. I was surpised to learn in the video about Michelangelo that he taught himself how to sculp. How does someone do such amazing work by teaching themselves? Another key concept I learned that he carried around 4 paintings with him and would often like to would create drawings of their next movement to get an idea of what it would look like if he were to sculped it. Some key concepts I learned while watching Leonardo da vinci were that I did not know he was a model first. I also did not realize what a man of many talents he was he had a brillant mind, seems to see something and put engineering thoughts to work. I also didn't know people thought he was a homosexual and was aquitted on horrible charges. It seems that the drawings he drew after this happened were implicating his feelings of darkness. He also considered himself uneducated which is just not right. 3. The video's relate to the readings in many ways one of which they explain a little bit about the history of artists and their works of art. But the videos go more into depth personally wise. 4.These films were more interesting to me than the others probably because I like the artists. They add depth to understanding by making key points stand out and make sure they are added in the videos.

Module 8
I chose the following videos Beyond the Classical: Byzantine and Later Greek Art, and The Greek Awakening; Art from the 5 th Century; because I was impressed with the Bysantine archictecture in chapter 15 Hagia Spohia. For the film The Greek Awakening is very interesting because I am actually learning about the Parthenon and Pericles in one of my other classes, plus Greek sculptures are amazing.
2.I did not realize the Greece was so very religious and this also played a major rold in the European and Byzantine style coming together. Greek orthodox had a profound effect on art and culture.Egyptian art didn't change because it didn't want to. Modern cities have similar classical styles. I also did not realize people still go to the Oracle home of God Apollo to culsult for their futures.
3Key concepts,.In the video more Human that Human that all around the world people copy Venic Von Willendory, I think that that the artist was imitating a pregnant women, the only thing that is weird is no arms, face nor legs. Greeks have passed on the architect all over the world. They have added great detail to the formation and rigidness of such sculptures.
The readings relate more towards the Greek structures and formation of Europe and how the cultures with art and the remarkable buildings and how they are built.
4. The films are informational especially because I am already learning about the Greeks and their classical age and can relate to this better.

Module 7
1.While watching the video Architecture Science of Design, I was surprised that the scientific componet for concrete was how it sets underwater, that these conditions are ideal to bring all the elements together. I also did not realize the whirlwinds that have to be taken into consideration when building a skyscraper and that they actually have the to and fro motion to sway so the winds can not ruin the structure.
2. The videos relate to the readings alot with the Greek and Romans architecture explaining the different types of columns and how it seems that the Roman architecture is one widely used in many areas. I thought about and think the front of Albright Knox gallery used Ionic columns.
3. The films are informational on the history and brilliantness that goes into building these magnificent structures. I did forget to mention on how interesting it was in the Science of Design video explained the computer part of the one building and that you could actually program how hot your water is for a shower. You don't realize the depth that is involved in constructing buildings and how many components have to be considered while architects are doing this.
4. I actually also watched the video Frank Gehry and although it was not my favorite one I was stunned at the structures he did come up with, it seemed as though he would build these with music in his mind and you can feel the presence of it. I found the Science of Design to be my favorite because of the more informaitonal pieces on other componets such as the electrical part and how the concrete is used in structures.

Module 6
1. Installation art is a work of art that can be entered, explored experienced and talked about. For example Harry Potter at Disney World . It is an idea you create and make into an area that when a person sees it or may walk through it.
2.I think any matierals can be used for installation art in the book it shows stix made into something that looks like a human.
3. Why not make installation art? It is more for the common person that can put you in there time or majical place that create.
4. I loved the Saite-Chapelle, it is not only a beautifull sight, it is calming and a feeling of safe from the outside world.
I am using a Halloween theme for my installation piece, my connection is memories of childhood and of my children, it is their favorite thing to celebrate next to Christmas. Themes of Art would be enviornment and consumerism. Alot of consumers put alot of money and time into this theme.

Module 6 Review of other blogs
1. http://Graz01.blogspot.com
http://vincesaed200.blogspot.com/
2. When looking at Project #1 I agreed with elements and principles, in fact both students had remarkable ideas and added other elements. I thought they were very clever.
3. The only image that I saw was the same as mine was in Grazis The Veteran we both used that painting. The reason was different, she was unsure how she felt.
4. In Vincent's he chose was the Staircase sculpture's I related in the fact that I was attracted to them for the precise and clean look they had. I love the contemporary look and thats what kind of artwork it is.
5. Reading their reflection is good insight on how other's think. I like their point of view and definately learn when they take images of things I never would think of. Sometimes I feel like I am behind.
6. I haven't had any comments yet but I will check again.

Module 6
1. The key concepts I learned from the videos was how far back this all began. I never gave it much thought before. First off I never knew glass came from sand and there are so many other elements that come together to make glass after it is fired. The way it is shaped and molded then hardens as it cools. The best part for me is how they make patterns and cut the glass when preparing stain glass. Stain glass windows are one of my favorite types of glass to admire. One of the reasons I like to go to a church is to admire them. It was interesting to hear that they are researching in making ceramic engines for cars, that this would be better for the environment and also on gas. It would make cars even lighter. That would be cool if this acturally happened.
2. The videos are similar to the readings in the way they explain how glass is made, and how items are molded and cut. It is just that the videos are more detailed. Actually seeing the sculptor on the video and watching him explain his steps when sculptoring was more interesting than reading about it.
3. The films in my opinion are good. They definately go into more depth or maybe it seems that way because your watching a work of art come to life. You can actually see the sculpting, molding. I was also amazed at the fact how they come across marble and how they go through 1,150,000lbs. a year.Duplicating what men did years and years ago on getting marble shows that old habits die hard.

Module 5
1. The two pieces of artwork that made an impression on me was the first one I downloaded called Card Player by Roberto Matt 1957. It is a sharp looking contemporary piece with a very cool look. The second one is called Carcus of Beef,1925 by Chaim Soutine. This one is the last one I downloaded and honestly is frightening looking and for the life of me I can't see why this is called art.
2. The artworks I felt a connection with are Juan Gis LeCarigae 1921. It has all my favorite colors and looks warm and inviting. This is the 3rd painting I downloaded, this is actually something I would hang in my own home. The other artwork would be Larry Rivers The Final Veteran 1960. It is very american with all the red white and blue colors, and also represents the soldiers who have and still are fighting for us.
3. I would like to know more about the artwork called Fireworks 1887 by James Ensor. It is interesting with all the fall colors and actually looks like a tree at its peak in fall time. i wonder if that is what the artist was comparing it to. James Rosenquist Nomad 1963,is the other artwork that is not only cool but reminds me of retro times and would belong in a diner or would be a good sign for a diner.

Module4
1. Creating the value scale and the colorwheel was interesting. I enjoyed painting the color wheel and seeing the colors appear when I mixed them, it is pretty incredible. The value scale was neat as I went on the side of the pencil and created the charcoal effect.
2. I enjoyed working with the color wheel more probably because it was a little more work involved with the bright different colors.
3. The most important discoveries in the creation of these studies and I would presume your talking about the colorwheel and value scale is discovering all the ending results, one is how you can hold apencil at a different angle to get the effect on the value scale and the other is how many different colors can come from mixing a primary and secondary color.
4. The video on making the prints and the different raising that is used to give a final effect was interesting, and important for the artists to basically make copies, or for making books etc.

Photobcket Journal
While learning the details of art and how many categories and elements you learn about I have found to be interesting. Even though I am not an art major I am finding out how to view art in a different way. When looking at art and taking pictures that I took I was looking for elements.
I tried to make sure that when viewing and taking the pictures that each one had at least one element, some have more than two. It wasn't hard because almost everything we look at whether it is an actual piece of art or a sculpture or a picture, even nature they all have some element and design.

Answers to module 3
| 1. Color is what we preceive as it is reflected light rays. There are many categories to color, such as primary which is red, yellow and blue. There is secondary like orange, green, and violet, these are made when combining two primary colors. Color has an effect on our emotion for instance when you see bright, vibrant colors you may feel happier, when you see dark, you may feel sad, even moody. Your expression as an artist becomes ALIVE with colors that are chosen. 2. Theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues/fascinates me would be how it all comes together, you have many angles, lighting props, music. This all is before us to view and hear and this makes the stage presence for us to see. It is also said it is the most powerful artistic element and hardest to control. 3. I think the color video made me realize the amazingness of it in itself. I was impressed on how color was first put on plaster and it was absorbed into wet plaster and as it dried it becomes color. The emotions of color are very important it may be the artist's mood at moment of using it, for example Mark Ruthko used very dark, bold colors he wanted people to feel dark mood even anger when looking at the room. Your emotion when looking at bright nice colors would be opposite, it would be uplifting. 4. Super natural world of religion. and how people took it so seriously. That the pictures are depicted bye good and bad. Although most of the art from 18th century art is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, it seems that when you look at the angels and christians it gives you a good feeling of emotion. When you are viewing the negative side of humans it is symbolizing the bad part of humans, you can feel the disturbing part they are portraying.
